masonry has become
the standard
building material.
Today, other
ingredients such as
air-entraining
agents, coloring
pigment, and water
repellent are added
to concrete block
mixture to further
increase the
versatile uses of
concrete block. In
addition,
concrete
itself permits
strength,
durability,

With new respect in recent
years, the concrete block is
now referred to as "concrete
masonry units" or "CMUs,"
blocks are increasingly
becoming
popular as substitutes for
other types conventional
building materials. Old
standard uses of concrete
block were for
low-visibility functions
such as foundations, slabs,
driveways and patios. Now
concrete blocks possess
high-visibility purposes
within the construction
industry today; house walls,
roofing, siding, flooring,
paving and more.
|
|
During the manufacturing
process, a machine molds
moist, low-slump concrete
into the desired shapes.
These blocks then undergo an
accelerated
curing process
at elevated
temperatures inside
a special chamber.
This
is generally followed by a
storage or drying phase so
the moisture content of the
units may be reduced to the
specified limit prior to
shipping.
